The Jet Set Zen

A guide to being well-rounded while keeping your chi intact

About Zen Girl April 10, 2008

Vashti @ 11:36 pm

Welcome to My Blog! My name is Vashti. I was born and raised in the beautiful and vibrant island of Puerto Rico. Currently, I just graduated from the University of Dayton in Ohio and my major is in Psychology and I have a minor in Women and Gender Studies (but don’t worry, I’m not a crazy feminazi, although I am in favor of equality). Interesting facts about me, well, I’m a Mahayana Buddhist, I am an ovo-vegetarian, and I love to play Silent Scope!

Addictions: pistachios, tea, Silent Scope, Resident Evil:The Umbrella Chronicles, veggie wraps, and shoes.

Things I like to do: I am the Public Relations Director of PRSSA (you should check out our blog), I like to go for walks, do yoga, volunteer, dance, read. I like to write a lot, I hope to write books in the future (mostly about things related to Psychology, which is my passion).

But really, people are my passion. I love to help others, work with others, learn about people and what makes them tick. I love meeting new people, I love being exposed to new and exciting ideas, surroundings, challenges, and all that good stuff.

Me in a nutshell, well, I am a life enthusiast. My dream is to one day become a motivational speaker. My goal in life is to help others realize that life does have its obstacles and hardships and it sure ain’t easy, but that does not mean it’s not worth living. It’s pretty amazing if you ask me. The important thing is taking the right steps towards making it incredible.

I have a friend who volunteered her time in Kolkata with an NGO and spent her time cleaning wounds, feeding, and clothing the homeless who lingered in the train stations. She had culture shock returning to the U.S., knowing how well off she (and we) have it. Her emails to us while she was in India were eye-opening. Your post reminded me of the things she reported back to us.
BTW–I work with perpetrators of DV in a county zero-tolerance program–a 27-week class I facilitate.

I have an MS Ed. in Counseling. The classes are court-ordered for misdemeanor dv offenders–just the men. I see that you are a Psychology major? Judging by your posts, I think you will be a very sensitive counselor. I’ve been in this field for going on 25 years; I also have been a journalist, so I split my time between both.

I like your information about jobs. I’ve currently had about 40 jobs, and at all of the information you have provided matches the adage of “90% of what you say, isn’t verbal.”

I ABSOLUTELY loved your post on 75 Things All Men Should Know.

I’ve been getting everyone I know to read about it as I think they’re legitimately wonderful tips towards becoming a better, well-rounded person. Honestly, I think they make a good set of personal goals as well as a good guide for men who haven’t quite grasped the concept of what a real man is. Bravo and thank you!
